Health Care Mobile Apps

Patients and providers both turn to mobile apps for increased access to information.

Quick Facts on Health Care Mobile Apps:

The mobile app “Medscape” has been downloaded over 500,000 times from the iTunes app store and features a large drug reference section that includes herbal drugs.

“Calculate” by QxMD is a medical calculator that lets health care providers search for calculators based on specialty.

When considering use of a health care app, be sure to look for controlled clinical research that supports the app. Many developers haven’t done enough homework or linked up with a medical school faculty that can test their product, but some have.

The study “Global Mobile Health Market Report 2010-2015” by research2guidance suggests that by 2015 over 500 million users will download a health care related mobile app.
